Going experimental. Or maybe just mental.

I've been playing around with my new pattern some more. As is always the way, I've gotten 'too close' to have perspective.

The fishbowl dress:

This is a lovely sky blue linen, with Alexander Henry fish fabric and deep blue silk shatung buttons.

I really went to town on this one! It's Kokka's Scandinavian Girls fabric in the middle...

With lots of green and white polkadot binding...

Around the armholes and neck, but also on either side of the central panel.

This was my first successful project with bias binding, so if nothing else I'm a better sewer than I was last time I tried!

So... experimental or just mental?

  1. Love the fishbowl one. Not so sure about the second. Bit too much going on for me! Like the binding tho - that looks good. Cant believe how much stuff you manage to make. You are a one woman production line!!

  2. I like the one with bindings and not too sure about the fishbowl... so there you go!

But then I really really like the look of binding, and only sometimes find it a pain to do.

  4. Both of them are so cute!! I like the fishbowl best, but the bindings are great. I love bindings and stick them wherever possible. Your's look awesome.

  5. I have an unnatural aversion to buttons, which is spoiling the fish one for me, but I adore the other one.

  6. Ooooh that fishbowl dress is the cutest thing going! Well done! Are you considering adopting another person to dress, as I'd put in an application to be your third child. :)

  10. Love the fishbowl one. Think the bib would look good with ruffles on, kind of like a 70s dress shirt! Not keen on the binding one, it looks very busy. But excellent binding skillz!

  11. I agree with the ruffles on the bib, I love them like that!

I would suggest a slightly smaller bib, perhaps with a contrast plaquet (sp?) for the buttons, then add a little cap sleeve..that would be my perfect toddler dress!

  12. oOH YEAH, I love Raffertys idea!! I love the fish material, you're giving me material envy again!
I am also in awe of the amount you churn out, you are indeed superwoman!

  13. I love the fishbowl dress- there's something tuxedo-y about it. The second dress is cute, but there's something not quite right about the combination of colors- maybe its the rendering, but that coral fabric just isn't doing it for me. I like the binding tho.
