Halloween non-humiliation

These are the costumes that I've been slogging over for at least eleven years. Or maybe the last two days. It felt like eleven years though due to the amount of bleach fumes I've inhaled.

I wasn't organised enough to buy blanks to embellish, so I made the tops and leggings from stratch as well. And I had to draft the patterns. So it really was close to eleven years work.

And to add to my workload, I did the backs too.

I started the project chalking the outlines on the fabric before attacking them with the bleach, but then I got so bored skilled I just freestyled them. I should probably get an honorary medical degree based on my knowledge of anatomy.

If anyone else is wanting to get in on this bleaching action (and you should because it's fun), make sure you get brushes with synthetic bristles. The bleach ate through an entire pack my natural hair brushes!

  2. your kids are so cute - and you are so skilled ;-)

all the kids who came to my door were in commercial costumes, none very good. mind you, they were less than thrilled with the halloween knits I thrust at them. I swear some waited round the corner till I'd run out and had to give sweets instead.

  10. holy cow. Considering I was totally sick (and still am) I was impressed with myself that I made three fairy headbands and cut a pair of black pants for a tiny pirate...I wish I saw this sooner those bleach fumes mighta cleared my sinuses. As always top notch!

BTW my word verification is "cramshi" which I just HAVE to use in my novel now.

  11. Oh my! You put my "sling some black fabric round him and safety-pin it together for a cape" effort to shame.

  12. brilliant! makes me ashamed of the ghost costume i made my 7 year old. a couple of metres of white sheeting, sewn at the sides to make a sack like garment but arm holes left open, attack the edge with scissors to make authentic looking (lol) and cut out eyes and mouth, give him a torch to hold inside for ghoulish glow.
your effort is way way better!
