I was so disheartened and unconfident about the likelihood of pulling off a handmade dress in two sleeps, that five minutes after I posted my frustration yesterday I took the bus into town in search for a dress. And I bought two! I actually found them at Bravissimo, which for those of you not in the UK, is a company that caters for people with big boobs. It's actually very clever, there are normal number sizes for the clothing, but three different cuts within each size: Curvy, Really Curvy, and Super Curvy. It was a bit of a shocker that the dresses I bought were two full sizes smaller than what I'd normally have to buy to accommodate my chest. But it's not all sunshine and roses, I don't know which one to wear...
Dress one is a rose print number with pleats. It's okay from the front, although I'm not sure the neckline is the best for my shape.
Here's the details of the pleats. So pretty.
But the major thing that's giving me pause is the side view. The combination of the pleats and the fairly heavy weight nature of the fabric creates a big paunch across my tummy. I pressed the pleats down more last night and this is the improved view. I'm not sure I want my tummy to look any more paunchy than it already is.
So on to dress two! This is a deep pink satin number with cross over bodice. It's extremely body con.
Again, the detailing is just lovely. See how the bodice is pleated but not bulky?
Because it's satin and body con, I have some ripples across my hip bones which force me to tug it down periodically to smooth them out.
My reservations about this one? Eh... it might be inappropriate for a wedding. It's funny though, I think it'd be fine if it was worn by someone with a more reasonable cup size. Having a large chest definitely has the power to lower the tone and have people sneer at you.
Which one should I wear? Steven wasn't enthusiastic about either, so a third choice would be to return to town and search for another. So, what say you?
At first I thought the rose looked more wedding-ish. But looking at them more and more, def the solid. I have no idea what body con is though. I'm not sure I own a dress.
ReplyDeleteThe second. Being out in public in possession of boadacious tatas is not a crime.
ReplyDeleteNumber 2!!!
ReplyDeleteIts one that can be dressed down and worn time and time again.
Looks Fab.
Number two for sure, it's smokin
ReplyDeleteI'm with everyone else on this one number 2 looks wonderful on you very flattering on you.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE the pink satin!!! It looks utterly fabulous on you and I think it is totally wedding appropriate. If you're worried though, a cute black bolero would cover some shoulder and decrease the obvious boob factor.
ReplyDeleteI hate the first one... its not a flattering cut at all... you totally rock the second dress! I would say go for the second dress with maybe a little shrug/scarf to wrap around your shoulders drape across your arms... something to contrast with all the pink, and to hide behind if you have a moment of being shy, though I cant see why when you are so beautiful.... also you need to smack your husband upside the head... or send Vonnie to do it for you as you are a friggan knockout in that dress!
ReplyDeleteyou will definitly make all the geeks drool. next time you must do cosplay :oP
Definitely number 2 but I'm not adverse to the "go shopping again" idea.
ReplyDeleteI like the way the second one looks on you, I don't think it's sneer worthy at all! But I know I hate wearing dresses that I feel I need to smooth back down into shape all the time, so is it a cop out to say whichever one you feel comfiest in?
ReplyDeleteThe pleats and print on the first are lovely, but I think the second looks better overall. :)
ReplyDeleteI love them both! You look especially lovely in the second, though...there might be a trip to Bravissimo for me soon!
ReplyDeleteSarah x
The second, absolutely. You look AMAZING in it!
ReplyDeleteThe second one, hands down. Being in the USA I have no conception of what is socially appropriate for a wedding in the UK, but over here the pink satin dress would be more what I consider wedding attire. You are young and have a fantastic figure, there's no reason to hide it!
ReplyDeleteAside from the pauchy problem with the rose dress, the neckline is way too high. If anything, that dress makes you look more busty, but not in a good way.
Number 2 definitely! Its gorgeous and you look at least a size smaller in it too
ReplyDeleteAll hail Bravissimo, I love that place.
ReplyDeleteThe second dress is gorgeous on you and makes you look tall and slim with an absolutely cracking rack - which is what you are.
If you feel self-concious about tugging it down at the hips, is there any scope to let the seams out at the hips at all? Even just an eighth of an inch or so at each side seam can be enough to stop fitted skirts creeping up.
the second one for sure - the first is nice in the detail, but agree with you that the neckline does not suit so well, but the pink is wow-wee (or wee-wow as my little one would say) - you look great in it and I think it is just perfect for a wedding!
ReplyDeleteNumber two. Lovely dress and looks very sexy on you but not embarrassing. Just like all the men at the wedding will get punched in the arm by their wives/girlfriends every time you walk by. :)
ReplyDeleteTwo, for sure, if you can afford to go shoe shopping for something in a similar colour with a cute feel it might make you feel a bit less 'hot to trot'! (If not just chin up and enjoy the leers)xxx
ReplyDeletenumber 2!!! looks gorgeous :) anyone sneering is just jealous. period.
ReplyDeleteI love the second - a bit like everyone else I think! Looks amazing on you.xx
ReplyDeleteWear number two, take number one back and buy a yummy bra instead! x
ReplyDeleteNumber twoooooo! It's in no way indecent - you're not exposing canyon-like cleavage, and the length is below knee, so there's no excess flesh on display. And you need to book Steven an appointment at the opticians :)
ReplyDeleteI love the pink satin one too. Some form of silky magic knickers might help the fabric slide over your hips rather than ride up? I'd wear it if I could look that good in it!
ReplyDeleteNumber 2! If you get/make a shrug for cover, not that it looks like you need it, that should sort out the cleavage thing. Don't think you need it though.
ReplyDeleteContraversially, take them both back! Or if you really need one of them then take back the flowers and wear the pink.
ReplyDeleteThe cut of the flowers one is wrong - that bubble shouldn't be there.
The pink is lush and looks fab on you but the smoothing down thing makes it a pita.
It is tough. Both r ace but I actually think that the folds on the pink one over the hips will drive you mental and while I say that you are not in the slightest fat, the resulting fit of the dress could easily make you look like you have squeezed into a dress one size too small....and I know that from personal experience!! I think you have to go with the one that feels right...
ReplyDeleteYou rock #2! No one will be leering, only staring and kicking their own a** for skipping the gym.
ReplyDeleteAs for #1: if you can, alter it to eliminate the pleats in the tummy area; if not, return it to the kangaroo from whence it came.
Hi, They are both excellent. I am 34GG and have tried on the rose one. Wanted to buy it but when I went back to get it in sale they didn't have my size. I am much chunkier than you, but I do love Bravissimo sizing - They recommended a size I have not been since i was that age.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, the tum thing - I had the same reservations about the emphasis on tum but once I'd walked around a bit I realised that no one would be looking at my tum, :) Also, i'm reliably informed that a tum is very attractive. I've decided to work hard on believing that! have a lovely time.x
