Final dress is Final. Accessories are lacking and vital.
Who would have believed it? I finished my final dress two days before I needed to. This has never happened before. Apologies for the abyssmal photo quality, I had to take these with my phone as Steven has taken the kids and the camera to the Science Festival.
It's just as well I wasn't still working at midnight on Friday because after it was basted together I found I still had a World of Fitting Issues. Because this print is so big and I didn't want to break it up, I changed the skirt from princess seamed to darted one (without any pattern for guidance) so the skirt needed adjustments galore. And I had to take the waistband in five (!) inches at the bottom corner.
The skirt is a tiny bit shorter in the back because I had to take a last minute wedge out where it met the waistband due to my extreme swayback.
I love the shoulders so much.
My original plan was to have a contrasting waistband so I picked a fabric that was a perfect match to the plummy pink of half the flowers. But when the fabrics were together it didn't match the plum pink as much as it clashed with the rose pink (if that makes sense to anyone other than me!)....
The reason Steven and the kids have given me a bit of peace today is because I still need shoes / bag / accessories. So, lovely readers.... would you go with black, plum pink, rose pink, or the green of the leaves?
Looks lovely! I think the green for accessories - pinks and black would look nice, but green would be more unusual and more of a contrast. :)
ReplyDeleteOne word lady: hot.
ReplyDeletePink shoes. Or plum.
I'd say plum or green. Both would be fabulous. This dress is just gorgeous and perfect. And I'd say you pretty much made it from scratch! I'm also looking for a complimentary way to say you look super thin in it without making it sound like you don't normally look thin. You do. I've seen you in your bathing suit. I guess the dress is just ultra flattering and perfectly tailored.
ReplyDeleteGreen might be tricky to locate, but would be divine! Beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteMy family has an old saying that comes to mind: Hubba hubba!
ReplyDeleteI agree with crafterhours, I always think you have a cute, trim figure... but yowza, that dress is super flattering!
I would say pink shoes. Black would work too, but I don't think the green would be quite right.
AMAZING. Worth all the hard work. No idea on accessories, I am useless at that kind of thing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! It looks great! I'm thinking a green clutch in a brighter shade? I'm no fashion expert I just like the punch of a handbag =)
ReplyDeleteI vote green, I'm picturing a green clutch with a bit of sheen. But totally pink or plum shoes. Something fun you have to look for an excuse to wear again and again.
ReplyDeleteThe final dress is totally fab!
Beautiful! This is the best of the bunch for sure. Very flattering.
ReplyDeleteGreen bag, rose or purple heels.
I love it, definately the best of the bunch...
ReplyDeleteI love it! You ahve a fantastic figure. That was my fav fabric. What about these shoes? http://www.schuh.co.uk/womens-purple-hush-puppies-noella-patent/1152013640
ReplyDeleteGood word, that dress is smokin' hot. I hope you kept a toile or cut a pattern from it so you can make it again - it is *so* flattering. I agree crafterhours and indywriter - it makes your waist look super teeny.
ReplyDeleteNo idea on accessories. I'm a big fan of black, myself. Easy to find and goes with everything. I'm boring like that though.
The final result is FABULOUS!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness that dress is stunning. Absolutely stunning! Excellent work. And kudos to finishing so early =)
ReplyDeleteThat is gorgeous! You look amazing. It fits perfectly. Am in complete awe of your sewing skills as always!! Enjoy the wedding and make sure EVERYONE knows that you made the dress yourself.
ReplyDeletep.s think you need to change the blue nail varnish tho!!
ooh you look hot hot HOT!
ReplyDeletestill like the leopard print with red too mind!
i'd go for black accessories - much easier to find and colour match also it letds the dress do the talking :)
Simply gorgeous! Well worth the effort, I'd say. Good luck with the accessories, believe me you don't want my advice anyway.
ReplyDeletethe dress looks super fitted and gorgeous on you! i second (or 3rd/4th etc...) on green accessories. might as well go big/colorful or go home. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are such a skinny minny! Love the fabric and the dress.
ReplyDeletei wouldn't go matchy with your shoes - too bridesmaid-y and/or 80's a look (well for me, anyhow). i'd go for a bronze-y with skinny heel to elongate those already great gams. accessories? some bangles would be lovely in the various colors or a bronze cuff.
ReplyDeletethe dress looks awesome!
i looked at your photos again and black i think would work great too. something that says less "office" than pumps but maybe some black satin d'orsay peeptoes or dressy/evening wear skinny heeled sandals.
ReplyDeleteif you decide on a necklace, something delicate that sits at the collarbone to highlight that beautiful neckline of the dress.
ok. i need to get back to work. too much fun to dress you up! :)
I say mix it up! try not to match your handbag to your shoes. The dress is perfect. Kx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Worth all the pain to get to the final product.
ReplyDeleteI would do green accessories. Or maybe mix and match - green jewelery and some other color for shoes.
The dress looks super, all that hard work as definitely paid off.
ReplyDeletePersonally I would opt for a green bag and accessories and keep the shoes simple - a smart black sandal or peep toe would look good and at least you would get more wear out of them later.
LOVE the dress, and you look amazing in it! I've got NO fashion sense, so have no useful advice.
ReplyDeleteJaw-droppingly gorgeous!! You're sooo slim!! I think green or plum would be lovely for accessories. Awesome awesome dress.
ReplyDeleteOh wow!
ReplyDeleteGreen or plum I would say.
It looks F A B :)
ReplyDeleteI'd go for black patent shoes and bag, mainly cos you want everyone to look at the dress not your shoes, and they'll be a lot easier to find than exactly the right shade of plum / pink / green. Save the colour for your nails!
Do we get to see Maia's dress too?
Terrific dress!! You will rob the show for sure :) And for the accessories.. green shoes and pink clutch IMO
ReplyDeleteso flattering! thanks for letting me know where the shirt was from.
ReplyDeleteI LoOove it! I'm so inspired by your work that I'm going to make my dress for my sister's wedding this summer.
ReplyDeleteJust speechless. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteSeriously sexy. I am in awe. I'd go for green accessories with it.
