ReplyDeleteHello! I have still not yet used the chilli knit I bought from you but hell, it doesn't count as spending on things I don't need if I don't spend any money on it, right? So count me in.
ReplyDeleteMy interesting thing for today is that I made a strawberry hat from red and green fleece but now can't tell if it looks too much like a tomato rather than a strawberry. It may need sequin seeds.
Something exciting...... I did human dissection when I was at uni. Perhaps that explains my,interest in your finger ( add mad scientist laugh at this point). Now I play with blood some people even let me take it from them too!

- I always have uncontrollable cravings for sweet stuff (especially of the chocolatey version) so I'm about to brave the cold, purely to buy a big pile of bad-for-me food.
- I recently decided that I need some hot pink in my apartment.
- the most random memory just popped into my head of falling on my bum in the middle of the street during my 15th birthday trip to see a show in Edinburgh.
Ooooh go on then. Here's something I've been meaning to post on your blog for a few days.......I went into about 20 shops last week trying to buy a swimming costume and all I could think about as I tried them all on was that I wished I was brave enough to make one of my own as awesome as yours :) (had to go for a very boring black tankini in the end!)

I'll comment that I got the most adorable skirt for Rylee this weekend and was lamenting that the pattern for it was SO simple but the lovely, heavy knit would be very difficult to source. It's why I'm captive to Gymboree, but would love to get some pretty knits to sew her a copy.

ReplyDeleteFun fact about me - When I was on a family vacation in Lake George, NY, at about age 6, I broke my arm twice within 24 hours. I decided to try monkey bars for the first time, fell and got a hairline fracture. Went to the hospital & got a splint. Next day, not to be one-uped by said bars, I tried again. Fail - down I go again. Arm *legit* broken. My parents were pi**ed. :)
I've been doing the same thing metaphorically ever since. ;)
Interesting about sewing - I am teaching myself to sew working may way through Vintage Style for Kids but the patterns have "errors" - I thought about emailing you to ask for advice about how to sort a problem out but I was too shy and chickened out

ReplyDeleteAlso, I looked at the finger picture (I can't resist!). Not as bad as I feared, but definitely one you'll remember for a while. If only it had been the middle finger. You could have flipped the bird for weeks and blamed the injury. That's the only way I could ever manage to do it. I can't even bring myself to flip my husband off when we are joking around. But if I had that bandage... *sigh* yes, I'm passive-aggressive like that.
What were we talking about? Ah, fabric. I love that cloud print on aqua.
I need something in blue as I have NOTHING fit for a boy in my stash. Although I do not know if it is in fact a boy I'm carrying, I'm so sure of it, I'm not going to wash all the homemade dresses I've got.

ReplyDeleteWe have just had to turn the boiler off for the second time while doing a makeover on a room for our two boys aged 1 and 3, I have been waiting to do this room for 4 years and am beyond excited and radiators are really boring. The room has a red and blue star, stripe, spot theme so your fabrics are just perfect to make something lovely for it.

ReplyDeleteInteresting fact: One of my boobs is faster than the other and when Morgan feeds he holds on to my fingers like the handles of a motorbike, almost so he doesn't fall off - it's that fast.

Well, besides being your official stalker, I used to be in a circus, so the next time you see someone unicycling/stilt walking or hanging from a tightrope outside your bedroom window ... yeah, that'll be me. ReplyDeleteHello. I need a metre of your beautiful knits to help heal my broken head. 'Broken head!?' I hear you exclaim 'Oh my gosh, are you ok!?' Well yes, and thank you for your concern. I am still very sore, but getting better every day. What happened? Well to cut a long story short there was an unfortunate incident with an escaped rabbit hunt and an ill-placed apple tree branch. I guess if we're being pedantic, it was my head that was ill-placed...in a very vigorous collision with a very hard object kind of a way. Cue a very loud scream and a disproportionately (disappointingly?) small amount of blood. If nothing else, thank you for the opportunity to discuss my calamity at length, it may not have been 'something interesting'. but it's been cathartic. I salute you, kind samaritan fabric lady.

ReplyDeletewhat else is today full of? well, I legit accidentally spent an hour and a half trying to figure out what pattern I have. I found this envelope with most of the important dress pieces in it (lacking sleeves, cuffs, and facings...no big) with most of the actual envelope gone. From a tiny scrap noticed while scrutinizing the fine print of what turned out to be advertisement for thread I saw Maudel which combined with the British spelling going on ("Centre back") lead me to Maudella company...I still have no clue what my pattern is.
I just read about a 14 year old who was able to build his own fusion reactor that he hopes to use in applications for cancer treatment and airport security. I got pretty excited by that. And by your giveaway. :)

My thought is that I want to start a journal to travel with a pattern I won from Debi, random but would be so brilliant for a future seamstress to find! In fact I may write notes in all my patterns now just in case some one finds them and uses them in the future... What started all this? Slithers of fabric from a project someone made sometime past in a vintage sewing book I'm reading!

ReplyDeleteThe most interesting thing I can think of at the moment is that I am sewing lots of reusable washable sanitary pads for victims of sexual abuse in Africa. Apparently large numbers of girls suffer fistulas and are neglected by their families because they are considered unclean. They are treated as outcasts because they are victims.

I can't believe the flack I got for that one, and then a year later some big major blogs have featured projects with...hm....yes...the EXPOSED ZIPPER and it got them all kinds of love. Which leads me to the only possible conclusion that it must just be the combination of ME and exposed zippers.

ReplyDeleteMy excitement is finding a new blog to follow and a new online shop full of lovely fabrics to spend in! When a was a kid I had wallpaper which was made up of blue sky, little fluffy clouds and rainbows and the fabric here reminds of that.

ReplyDeleteI received a kombucha scoby (a tea mushroom) from a stranger I met on the internet yesterday. It's not nearly as sketchy as it sounds, she had the most lovely bright yellow kitchen cabinets, and was kind enough as to offer me some sourdough starter as well. Alas, I do not have the time or energy to make sourdough bread! Funnily enough, I am absolutely infatuated with your yellow mushroom fabric. I think it would be fantastic as an accent panel on a black swing dress!
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering how hard it might be to add knit ribbing to all of Rheya's pajama bottoms so I no longer have to put bobbles round the bottom of them to stop them rolling up and here therefore freaking out. I might use your tutorial above to have a go on a scraggy pair of bottoms first.

What wonderful fabrics to choose from in your shop! Thanks for the chance to win some! I feel good about my chances. Many years ago I went through a week where everything fell right into place for me. I would think something, and within an hour it would happen. Silly little things like needing a ride and a friend with a car suddenly appearing. But, still, it was fun. At the end of the week, I commented to a friend that the stars had aligned for me that week. Their reply: the planets were in fact aligned that week. And, funny thing, they are again right now (link to the NASA article). I can't wait to get my hands on some astronaut fabric!
ReplyDeleteI'm just getting into sewing for my one-year-old son, which means I should venture into knits (I'm a sewing veteran, but this is totally new territory for me). I would love to make him something with the little elephants!

ReplyDeleteI'm sewing 24 (lined) drawstring bags from Wilko tea towels, to help raise money for the Haiti Hospital Appeal's 'Dream' campaign. It's a campaign to help a team of disabled, Haitian athletes train, and qualify, for the London 2012 Paralympics. My daughter is sacrificing her birthday presents in order to raise money for this. I believe in this cause with all my heart, but I am absolutely sick to death of looking at, and sewing, Union Jack tea towel fabric. Please let me win a metre of anything that doesn't have the Union Jack on it!
