And then I joined The White Stripes

If you're not my friend on Facebook, you've missed out on some epic whining this week. Firstly, I have my biannual dose of tonsilitus. But even more harrowing, I had a disastrous set of appointments at a hair salon. Why 'sets', you ask? Because first they did this:

Those are 'blonde' highlights that were left on so long that huge sections of hair turned white-grey. Because the highlights took more than three hours (including an hour when the foils were on but not checked) and subsequently I was running late to pick up the kids, I had to leave with my hair wet and I didn't realise how bad it was until later. With a friend for moral support (and to confirm that it was in fact terrible), I returned the next day to express how unhappy I was and that I would like it fixed. The good news: tonight it was fixed*. The bad news: they charged me to fix it. I don't think I've ever named-and-shamed a company before, but here I go.

*If by fixed you mean given an all-over colour not too far from my natural colour.

  1. noooo they shouldn't have charged you. I had some awful highlights that Toni and Guy botched in my hair redone for free, never went back or had highlights again, too much trouble.

    1. I've had highlights two other places without a problem. But it's made me wonder if I should ever have them again!

  2. Maybe you should email them that photo and suggest they use it on the slideshow on their front page.
I hate shitty service, they were well out of order to charge you to correct THEIR mistakes. Try writing to them if you don't want to go back in again? I am horribly intimidated by posh hair dressers.

    1. Yeah, not planning on going back in person. From where I was sitting on Tuesday I had the pleasure of hearing the manager and staff complaining / gossiping about everyone who came in! I tried to post the pic on their FB wall but it's set up so you have to friend request them first.

  3. I would definately let them know you are naming and shaming them - terrible service. Toni and Guy once cut more than I wanted off my hair (like 4 inches!) then when i complained, offered me a voucher for a free haircut!!! ha ha.

  4. What the hell?! Why did you pay?! Why why?!! You are entitled to have it fixed for free!! Oh my dear god, I am outraged!!

    1. I didn't have much choice! It was the manager who told the stylist to charge me 'because I wanted more colours'. The alternative was to have a different hairdressers fix it and that would have cost even more :(

  5. That really is well out of order :-( - no way should you have had to pay extra to correct their mistake. They have a Facebook page too - might be worth stating your case on there - maybe they'll change their mind...

    1. Their FB page is set up so you have to friend request for posting access. Looking through consumer direct to see how I should lodge a complaint.

  6. Oh no, that is really not good and no way should you have had to pay to fix their mistake! For some unknown reason I've always found Edinburgh to have a shortage of decent hairdressers. However, I would thoroughly recommend Layla who works at PSA on Lothian Road (or at least she did when I was last there) as her cuts and colours were always good.

    2. Hi Amanda,

You are entitled to have a service put right without charge if it has been done without reasonable care:

    1. I'm writing a complaint letter tonight... I would be surprised if they care though!

  9. You should send a copy of the complaint letter to your local papers too. That's awful customer care. :-(

  10. I have just had exactly the smae experience - consequences of which I look 10 years older and greyer than before the 'highlights'. I wasn't brave enough to complain (and yes I wondered too why it took 3 hours...)which I should have done - it's a shame because my regular hairdresser is on maternity leave and so I was left at the tender mercy of someone else and up until now (and after 8 years) I have had no complaints. Will be purchasing all over colour from Tescos at the weekend.....

    1. Oh nooooo! I'm so sorry that you've had a bad one too. If it's your normal salon but someone else, I would definitely go back in to complain. Probably more likely that they'll be nice than a salon that doesn't know you. Hope you can get it fixed x

  11. booo, that's atrocious. It seriously looks like they just made you a senior citizen against your will and then charged you to fix it. Which if you think about it, clever clever but quite naughty.
