If you geek me, I'll geek you back. But if you gourmet me, I'll probably just scratch my head.

I received an unexpected surprise package yesterday from none other than the illustrious Kat from Housewife Confidential. At first I thought she just sent a hefty amount of bubble wrap and Rainbow Brite tape for the kids (which would have been more than appreciated), but hidden within was a hefty jar of deliciousness. As Kat is a sophisticated grown-up who I'm keen to impress, I've had to pretend I know what it is but I'm assuming it's either ambrosia or manna. Depending on what religion you follow. And pumpkin is involved.

I've gone on record saying if you geek me I will geek you back, but what am I assumed to do when someone sends me something grown up? Obviously, baking is out of the question. She has a beautiful house full of awesome and quirky things. And the only man that makes Kat go all fangirl is her husband. She's pretty much perfect.

If you were me, what would you make Kat?

  2. A bread bag? I never knew such things existed. I'm such a heathen :)

  4. I like the bread bag idea. I agree...someone that grown up has to bake her own bread!

  5. Flavoured vodka? If memory serves, 500g of cranberries, some sugar, a 1l bottle of vodka and a large jar to store it in. Place all ingredients in said jar (give it a good wash in hot soapy water/the dishwasher beforehand) and leave in a cool dark place for 4/6 weeks. Give the jar a shake whenever you happen to pass. Strain and decant back into vodka bottle or pretty new container bought for the occasion. Et voila! I made some for Kirsty last year, went down rather well. Or she's really polite, one of the two :)

Can also be done with pomegranates, rhubarb, blackberries.

I am not a lush. Much.

  6. I make flavoured vodka with skittles.

I am both a lush and a heathen, though, so maybe best not listen to me.

  7. Ha ha, you make me laugh. It is Pumpkin and Maple Syrup spread which could be turned into a Thanksgiving pie if a) Royal Mail got their act together and b) you had a working oven. No return gifts required at all seeing as you are helping me turn into a rotund Minnie Mouse. Winnibriggs has me pegged though, just cultivating some sourdough starter for new adventures in bread making :)
