Wintery fleece hat with ear flaps

We had our first snowfall this week and there's more expected today. It's officially the time to break out the winter hats. But Jamie doesn't really have any winter hats, because his preternaturally large head renders all hats Beanies.

I know, I know... I said I was going to take last night off from my sewing slavedom. And I did, mostly. It doesn't count if it takes less than 30 minutes.

They're so quick to make I really have no excuse for not making Maia one too. Well, I have a tiny excuse in that I was reacquainting myself with Twitter and catching up on your blogs... But still, I so should have because they've been fighting over it for three hours now. Think I need me some of those slightly superfluous ear flaps.

My life as a dervish

You might have seen this message on Twitter this week. I have been a virtual non-entity on the places I normally procrastinate hang-out at. Why? Because I've been sewing like a dervish. Never one to turn business away, especially before Christmas and with a month long hiatus looming, I accepted a tsunami of custom orders and I just packaged the last one to go in the post today. In the last five days I have sewn one tunic, one cowl neck top, three t-shirts, four dresses and five hoodies. I have temporarily retired the Birds of Norway tunic, the Edinburgh hoodie, the Manga Girl hoodie and the Retro Guitar hoodie until I can track down more fabric. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate every single one of those orders. But I'm exhausted. And I'm (maybe?) going to take tonight off before bashing my way through the remaining three dresses, five hoodies and a tunic that need to be finished next week. Oh, and possibly buy some Christmas presents.

And then Jesus did what?!

Today was our very first nativity play and it was adorable. Before you start wondering when Rudolph met the baby Jesus (or the baby Cheesa as Jamie says), it was a pageant of two halfs. First, the religious bits. Second, the carols. Although he's been rehearsing for more than a month Jamie eyed the proceedings with his usual, 'What the hell is going on here, then?' But it was funny seeing what those crazy kids were doing, and he enjoyed himself.

This is his very authentic shepherd's costume. I didn't even make the tea towel, that's how busy I've been.

I apologise for the quality of the video. It was so crowded I had to kneel on the floor right next the mother with the best video camera official videographer and hold the camera aloft with both hands and tape blindly. And if my hand is unsteady, it's because Maia took advantage of my hands in the air stance and enthusiastically felt me up with both hands. I'm looking forward to buying the official video and listening to her murmurings of 'Mmmm, boobies!' over the kids singing.

The Satanic Dress

One of my favourite customers wanted the Underwater Sister party frock from my sale but it had already gone to another of my favourite customers. I offered to make another but she wasn't enamoured with the orange linen reverse side. I wracked my brains and scoured my fabric closet for an alternative. Because my life is just like Faust, Mephistopheles appeared with a fabric in his hands...

A gorgeous chocolate brown velvet with tiny spots that perfectly matches the mermaids' hair. I forgot I had it, all five metres of it. This is probably because I have a guardian angel.

This spotty velvet looks innocent enough, but if Satan had a fabric range, this would be his bestseller. It was very close to impossible to sew with. It slipped all over the place even when I pinned it to death.

Take a very good look, because this might be the only time you see this fabric. Unless I burn it on a pyre and take pictures. Or get amnesia.

I am a thirteen year old boy

Did you know that if I lined up all the hoodies I have made / am currently making this month it would reach to the moon and back? Or, at least down the hall. Seventeen hoodies.

But this one is a bit special because a) the customer sent me the fabric which is always fun b) it's for a thirteen year old. It a little bit blew my mind because the measurements she provided are really not that much smaller than me. And lo and behold I tried it on this morning and it fit. Strange stuff.

The worst swap in history (but not for me)

Our photographer pal Gustaf kindly offered to swap terrible baking for photos so on Friday we hopped on the bus with our Angst Cookies and a big bag of clothes. Not the cookies that said 'Kill me now', I ate those shortly after Steven found them in the kitchen and thought I was leaving elaborate and creative suicide notes. Incidently, Steven also found the 'WTF, Steven? Get a life!' note last week before reading my blog so my hiliarity just keeps giving. Anyway, this is supposed to be about the pictures. Gah, the pictures...

Underwater Sisters tunic The Edinburgh Hoodie Mocca flowers tunic Yui Kokeshi charcoal tunic Mirabelle tunic Red Tulips tunic
Ginger blossoms tunic
Fuschia Euro flowers dress
Turquoise Euro flowers dress

This dress marked the end of her cooperation and I don't blame her. But Gustaf still managed to take some really awesome candid pictures.

Exactly how ashamed should I be that I gave angst cookies for these pictures?!

The Morning After the Night Before

It was the official Kitschy Coo Christmas night out last night. Which basically meant that me and Friend Sarah went out in Edinburgh somewhere in the vicinity of Christmas. And it was slightly more festive than a normal night out, because I had a hot dog in the German Market. And a waffle. And a mulled wine with appelschnapps. In the absence of anything coherant to say today, here's my new haircut:

I'm growing my fringe out. Which means I think I finally look my age. What do you think?
