My computer went to sleep this morning, and did not wake up. I'll google it, I thought. Bugger. I turned it on and off. No game. Someone on Twitter will know what to do! Bugger. I disconnected cables, reconnected cables. No game. I called Vonnie and Bob in a panic, 'My best friend has died!' Bob talked me through the problem. I opened up the heart of the computer and could find no evidence of the elusive video card despite lots of staring. I have to look up the computer repair shop phone number. Bugger. I found something called a phone book in the recess of the closet. Bring it in, he said. I carried the computer one mile down the road like Atlas carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. He looked at me sadly as he cut the umbilical cord that held us together. Pray for us. Or send me a text. I'm lonely.

Giveaway: bigger girl's asymmetrical jacket pattern
My patterns arrived from the printers yesterday so I'm excited to announce that the asymmetrical jacket pattern in sizes 5Y/6Y/7Y/8Y has hit my shop!
Like the toddler version, this jacket is a swing fit with two buttons to the side, a large asymmetrical collar, it's reversible, and designed to fit for two years. The sleeves are cut long so they can be folded up for the first year of wear and down as she gets bigger.
As always, when I release a new pattern I host a giveaway for the pattern here so here goes... I can't decide which other patterns I should work on next: the dropwaisted bubble skirt, reversible party frock, zippy hoodie, kimono dress, ladies tunic... To enter the giveaway please leave a comment on this post (including your email address if I can't contact you through a link) with which pattern should be next on my hit list. Or maybe another toddler pattern in bigger sizes? Or, indeed, something else I haven't mentioned at all but you'd really like!

Stop staring at me
To give you a break from my relentless posting of pictures of me, how about you check out these pictures of other people:
This is Maxine modelling her asymmetrical jacket. She doesn't like showing pictures of her face because she looks about twenty years younger than her actual age and she doesn't want us all to hate her for it. At least that's what I think.
I love these big buttons.
And this is Rachel's asymmetrical jacket.
Being a very clever lady indeed, it has an inner-lining of fleece for warmth.
A lot of you will recognise this little girl, and indeed, probably these very same pictures as I stole them from Vonnie's blog. This is the dress I made for her to wear to her baby sister's christening.
And the polkadot reverse side.
Isn't this picture beautiful?!

Buoyed by your enthusiastic comments on my tunic dress, I had a go making a couple of variations. This bum-skimming tunic has long sleeves:
Because of the length, it didn't really suit ties in the back so I made it one size smaller to be more fitted. And then I went a bit mental:
Note the slightly embarrassed smile. Sure, sure... this fabric is amazing and I love it heaps. But on an adult, hmmm. I think with the long sleeves it's just too much buildings and colours. It's about two inches shorter than yesterday's dress, so it could be worn as a minidress:
I made very long purple ties that can make it all the way around the back and get tied at the front. What should I do with this creation? Should I chop the sleeves off? Throw it in the 'to be re-cycled pile'? Or poke my eyes out?

Third's a charm. Or a tunic.
I felt confident enough after yesterday's escapades to attempt a proper tunic. Or a tunic dress to be more precise. Here are my legs making their 2009 debut:
My childminder / photographer was encouraging me to look sassy. And lie on the ground, but I declined. This is the back:
I added long ties to give it some shape.
Like my children's tunics, it has a fancy double elastic neckline which means the fabric doesn't bunch as much as a peasant top does. I like how it's a squarish neckline.
And here's the bow in the back (if you can find it). I tried a bunch of different cinching effects including a belt and an elastic channel under bust, but I think the ties work best. It doesn't add bulk in the front by gathering fabric there and the tighter you tie it the more low cut it is in the front, giving a more dressy and structured look.
So, what say you?

Chalk and cheese
I should probably open with the fact: I really like cheese. Okay. Now, after the lovely tunics I made yesterday for Erica, I decided to try and make myself one today. First effort, no separate channel to save time and jersey in case I didn't give myself enough room for the chest. As if...
Body dysmorphia strikes again. So I took it in about 45 inches:
These dismal efforts make me 'chalk'. So who's cheese? My testers, that's who. They're totally rocking their asymmetrical coats:
This is Kym from Sugarmouse. Let's stop for a minute to admire her handiwork. I really love this purple colour and the coat looks fabulous on her. And look, an innovation!
She belted it up too and I totally think it really suits a bit more structure than the loose swing fit. If you like reading nice things about me *waves at parents*, you should read her post about testing this pattern. And then follow her blog too, she makes lovely things and her daughter is a cutie!
And this beautiful coat is from Maxine from Tiny White Daisies. I've been checking my email literally every five minutes waiting for her modelling debut but she's tormenting me. Or busy with her four children, I'm not sure. And look at the reverse!
I've gotten some awesome feedback from these lovely ladies and there's two more testers to come so fingers crossed the 10/12 and 12/14 patterns will be available next week! Once they're all set, I'll do the 8/10 and 14/16 next.
