Every cloud has a silver lining

I had to go into town today to get new passport pictures taken. Obviously, getting a new US passport when in the UK is an administrative and financial burden. But the good news is, I won't be saddled with a passport picture like this one for the next ten years:


That's right, folks, the specimen above is my current passport picture. That I've been travelling with for ten years. The shame. Each time I've handed over my passport for perusal, I received a look like, 'And where's the person who's supposed to be holding your hand?'

But no longer! Here's my new one:

Pandora's box

The postman delivered a very big box this morning. Gorgeous velvet and babycord from Holland!


I'm a very naughty girl. But it's a business expense, so there. And I couldn't resist a couple metres tiny bit of lime green matryoshka fabric either.


In unrelated and slightly redundant news, I just finished the superhero hoodie in 7Y/8Y for the Coolest Family in the World *TM (the Coolest Coat, Coolest Hoodie and this hoodie are all going to the same family).


And look! I snazzed it up a bit more with contrasting blue zip, cuffs and hem against the red lining.

The Coolest Baby in the World *TM

I'm continuing my series in coolness with a tiny hoodie. I don't know what it is about these Cloth Nappy Mummies, but they've got some great taste! I made this one raglan instead of inset sleeves to maximise the number of full superhero squares showing on the front as it's only little... 1-2yrs!


I'm also making one of these in 7yr/8yr, and think it will rock with loads of superheroes on show! Unfortunately I was so tired last night when I was making this (post witching hour) that I forgot how to make the sleeves reversible and I had to figure it out again...


Someone commented on my hoodie yesterday about making this pattern available, and it's in the works :)

The Coolest Kid in the World *TM

After hearing my plight following my disastrous monsoon fair, the lovely ladies from Cloth Nappies Addicts clubbed together to place a massive co-op order for twenty-seven things. Most have been dispatched, but I'm still plugging away through the custom orders. The Coolest Coat in the World *TM was the first, and now the Coolest Hoodie in the World *TM is done too.


Both of these rockin' items are going to the same kid, The Coolest Kid in the World *TM. I sent his mum him some photos of fabrics and he designed this hoodie himself.


It's Michael Miller fabric with Rock Star Guitar Solo silhouettes. Awesome.


Of course I love it, but the greatest sense of achievement I have is because two hundred and sixty seven days after my first hoodie, I have finally figured out how to make it fully reversible. I could never, ever in my wildest dreams (and yes, I have dreamed about this because it's been bugging me so much) figure out how to attach the ribbing to the sleeve edges in a reversible fashion. Lots of staring, lots of pinning, pulling inside out, pulling right side out, pinning, staring... I've sussed it!

The Coolest Coat in the World *TM

As much as it shocks me to write this, it did not rain snakes and toads yesterday. Or blood, or fire. It rained actual droplets of moisture, but only at 3:05 and the market finished at 3:00. I did not wear six layers of clothes, I only wore two. My hands were not non-functional purple lobster claws, they were actual usable hands with movable fingers. No bloody noses under my table, no crying behind trees. Result!

I haven't posted anything sewn this week, but that doesn't mean I haven't been stitching like a dervish. It's a slightly longer story (which I'll tell you tomorrow), but I wanted to share The Coolest Coat in the World *TM:

Just to warn you...

I've booked another last minute fair for tomorrow. Outside. As my bloggy friend Rhubarb Crumble pointed out:

That's right, everyone should go out and buy supplies. Because "Me Doing a Fair = Terrible Weather". I've had monsoon, I've had tornado. I think that leaves blizzard, hurricane, flood, earthquake, volcano, and tsunami. And those are just the natural disasters. If you want to open it up to signs of the impending Apocalypse, there's lots of other things that could happen. From medieval sources (because I'm dorky like that), I should also prepare for fire to rain down from heaven. Or stones. Or blood. Or maybe some hailstones the size of eggs. Possibly with 'eyes, faces and tails'. Yikes. Poison gas that turns men to stone. I can cope with all of that, I rented a proper market stall. But what I am really frightened of is: raining snakes and toads. Toads? Cool. Snakes? My own personal hell. *shiver*
