Yoga leggings and Cowl neck tunic pattern giveaway

Those of you on Twitter might have noticed the inimitable @thatkat was Twitpic'ing her progress testing the yoga leggings pattern. Man, oh man, I love the stripes.

And look. I think Maia has a rival in the booty department.

The pattern includes three choices of leg: a skinny long leg, a cuff, and a mock-button overlapping cuff. The beauty of these leggings, though, is a very tall foldover yoga waistband... no irritating elastic to dig into the waist and the added modesty of being able to wear the band up in the back to fully cover little bottoms. With the fold-down / fold-up waistband and the slightly long slouchy legs, these leggings are designed to provide two years of wear.

And remember when I was on my deathbed (again), Emily tested the cowl neck top? That's ready too. There are a lot of variations included with this pattern: two choices of necks (a cowl that can be kept tall and slouchy or folded over, and a mock neck that has height but is not folded over), either puffed or standard sleeves, and an optional large kangaroo pocket to the front for storing treasures. Its generous fit is designed to provide two years of wear.

These two patterns are on their way to the printers today. And as per every other time I launch a pattern, a giveaway. To enter this giveaway, leave a comment on this post with your favourite book. I'm on the hunt. Also, which pattern you'd like. I'll announce who won on Sunday, and as usual you can have multiple entries if you re-tweet, blog, Facebook or other cyber tomfoolery. Just remember to come on back and re-comment because I won't be able to keep track!

  1. Meeeeeee!!!

Fave book? Oh my, oh me. Depends what you're into. Most recently for me, 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez blew me away completley.

Some other staunch favourites are Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut and The Dog of the Marriage by Amy Hempel.

    I could go on... but I won't.

  2. Me, please!! Well, actually Myra. My butt is DEFINITELY bigger than Maia's.

Only one favorite book??? I could say Twilight, but you'd laugh (and I'd be lying - fun read, but not a fave), or Pride and Prejudice, or The Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Sewing. That last one is actually probably true. It's certainly the one I read the most.

  3. wow! I love the pants Kat! well done! :-)

My fave book(s) are "his dark materials" by Phillip Pullman.
I have all 4 and am eagerly awaiting the next installment.

I would love to try the leggings, I just adore the button cuff ones, simply magic looking!! but also, the cowl jumper. I've never been successful at making a top for my kids, so would LOVE to try this out!

i'll be buying the patterns as soon as you have them for sale!!

  5. Oh, I am at such a disadvantage, because I already gave you oodles of book recommends once (btw, did you like the quality of the audio book? I still have the 2nd half of the first and the 2nd one to convert for you if it is ok).

It's so hard to pick just one. I'm trying to think of my most worn out, loved books. How about one that is underappreciated? Earth Abides by George Stewart. It was written in 1950 (or earlier?) and it still reads very current.

I'll think some more about a favorite and re-comment after I facebook share. :)

And I'd love the yoga pants pattern.

    Um, Pullman - Northern Lights

Brookmyre - big boy did it/sacred art of stealing/ um, the last one that combines the 2 chars from the first ones

Really enjoying Let The Right One In - not your typical vamp book.

Oh, and Merry Gentry (L K Hamilton) for some fairy porn.

(Stray, if I win, you're making me things...)

  7. After I looked it up I decided that I am very flattered to be described as inimitable. I woul like to point out that Milla has been medically diagnosed as having a very small bottom - that picture is all stripes.

Agreed on His Dark Materials trilogy - simply the most wonderful books I have ever read.

  9. An old favourite and one I come back to agian and again is Tully by Paulina Simons.

Would the legging pattern work for a very tall, very (I mean very) skinny six year old if I lengthened the leg? If so, count me in!

    xxx

  12. Am I allowed to enter? If so, I would like the leggings pattern please :)
My favourite book is Perfume by Patrick Suskind - so much so that I haven't been able to bring myself to watch the film yet, just in case it ruins it for me. Or if you've read that, Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood. Or The Blind Assissin by Margaret Atwood. Or anything else by Margaret Atwood :D

  13. Pickled Weasel beat me to it with Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood! I also really liked Behind the Scenes at the Museum by Kate Atkinson.
I've had some spotty fleece fabric in the boot of my car since christmas that I'd been thinking about asking you to make a tunic with, so perhaps I should have a shot at it myself?!

  14. book? for laugh out loud funny, as in people on the subway were giving me odd looks, i'd suggest david sedaris' me talk pretty one day. for classics, i'd suggest either pride and prejudice or a tale of two cities. for post modern british literature, evelyn waugh's a handful of dust. and american: ernest hemingway's the sun also rises is brilliant. and for pop culture easy read, the harry potter books are terrific. ok... more than you probably asked for.

    i'd love the leggings!

  19. How about the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan? I've just finished it and it's good. Not amazing-life-changingly fabulous, but good-for-several-hours-of-distraction fabulous!

    I know, that's a series not a book.

Fav book ever? Whatever I'm reading right now! This time, Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman (the author's preferred text).

  20. My favourite book is The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. Its not a very long book but its really thought provoking and a great read, his book "Tuesdays with Morrie" which is a true story is also great. I would love the top pattern, just got a sewing machine last year and love finding things to make on it.

  22. I second Oryx and Crake (or third it?) And I think I actually snorted reading Me Talk Pretty One Day.

If you've never read it I think The Chosen by Chiam Potok is one of my all time favorites. Also his two about a painter named Asher Lev.

  23. Tis Moxie here! My best book is The Urban Warriors Handbook by The Barefoot Doctor. It keeps me sane... Well, sane enough to be allowed near scissors but not so much as to make things boring.

Both patterns are yummy... So hard to choose but will go for the leggings as I have a booty girl here too! Xx

  24. Love the cowl neck :-)

Definitely Donna Tartt's 'The Secret History'. Greek (language) students with style and murderous instincts in 80's Vermont. I can't begin to say how fabulous this is. Absolutely my favourite book of all time.
