Made a top, then booked a breast reduction

Robert Burns wrote; 'The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray...' And never is this more true than when you have big boobs. One of my bloggy friends, Domestic Cat, pointed my in the direction of a Spring Ruffle Top tutorial on Sew, Mama, Sew. Look how lovely it is:

I pictured my head on this body and wanted to sew myself one so much! When my inner voice said 'But Amanda, what of your big boobs?' I stuck my fingers in my ears and said La, la, la until it stopped. And so I made myself one.

What a pretty bodice! So far so good, let's zoom out!

Uh-oh, it's all going a bit tent like... Maybe we should check out the side view...

Egads, check out that bosom shelf!

  1. You are far too critical of yourself, I think that's really cute.

  2. I love this top... It doens't look as bad as you think it does!

I had wanted to make one for myself but was worried I would look pregnant in it!

  3. @Vonnie, thanks :) I do try to wear things that make my boobs look smaller, so I angst when they look massive...
@Ashlee, I can confirm that you could fit probably a six month bump in my top. On the plus side, I won't have to hold my belly in ever!

  5. I love that top! It looks great. I have the opposite problem to you with no boobs at all and its even worse after 2 children!!

  6. It's gorgeous! I don't think your boobs look too big, but perhaps a belt around the waist might pull it in a bit?

    Really, really nice top!

  7. I have been thinking of making that top myself. I'm not a small boobed person myself - so I might make a mock up first (I'm a G cup. In some tops I can hide a whole baby let alone a bump) to check. I'm a big fan of adding ribbons to tie in the back to make it tighter underneath

  8. It's super-cute and I love the fabric. But, yeah, the cut's maybe not the *most* flattering - not so much to the bosoms, but it completely disguises your nice trim middle.

That said, I have a similar top and wear it anyway as it's dead comfy, even if it does start pregnancy rumours :)

  9. I had the same problem. I made this top and loved it... until I put it on. I have a meager bosom (I giggled as I typed that... suddenly I'm 85) and usually wear a pushup with padding. I dug out my flattest bra to wear with this shirt. and then spent the day telling people, "No, I'm not pregnant."

I think yours looks better than mine on...

  10. I love it. i tried on the one Kat made for our other sister Ellie and love it. I like how my big boobs allow the top to hide my not so small extra baby belly, that i can't get rid of LOL

  11. At least your boobage sticks out farther than your belly.
'Tis the other way round with me and I most definitely look pregnant in any empire-style top.
I say go for it - what's the worst that can happen? You get a seat on the bus?

  13. LOL I have that problem too. I bought a top very similar to that last week, wore it at the weekend and have a sneaky suspicion that I looked about 6months pregnant. Buggeration!
It is a fab top and I love (as ever) your choice of material.
