Amanda on Ananda

Ananda pants front 2

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to test Jenny from The Southern Institute's first pattern, the Ananda Pants.  Do you know how tricky it is to type Ananda when your name is Amanda?  Heaps.

The trousers are wide leg yoga style, with a knit waistband in lieu of elastic.  Maia is pretty fussy about waistband comfort so these are a winner in our book.  Obviously the waist doesn't need to be pulled up quite so high, you can fold it down should you be overcome with the desire to do so.

Best thing about yoga waistbands? The bum coverage! Bum coverage for Maia is our mythical unicorn.  If I can track down grey and black ponte I'll be making her a bunch of school trousers with the Ananda pants as part of my Make Great Patterns Boring Initiative.

You can get the pattern from the newly-launched Chopstix Patterns here!

  2. So cute! Your yoga leggins pattern are some of Rylee's favorite pants because of the waist. But I've been looking around because a) my attempt to grade to a higher size was a joke and she has a big saggy crotch in her "big" size and b) sometimes pants that touch her legs are too "itchy" and she has a little sensory sensitive fit.

That said, if you sold a bigger version of your yoga leggings I would buy that as well. :)

    1. I've been planning on grading that pattern through 8 and releasing it as a pdf for all sizes together :) It's been unavailable for *ages* because it was one of my old paper patterns!

    2. I would be first in line to buy a graded up size of those leggings. She had a bunch even in my grading fail, because they work so well here. Some days she needs long pants in the AM but is too warm by afternoon. She likes to slip them on under dresses.

  3. Amanda, thank you so much for your kind comment on my post about, among other things, my daughter's bum. And thank you for this - we need these trousers too! (Plus, I just remembered how glad I am not to be dealing with school uniforms :-) Maia looks so comfy in them. Hope the start of school has gone well for you all!

  4. It looks like these have a lot of rise, even when I imagine the waistband folded over. Is this the case? My girls must have short rises and short torsos. I love the photos of your daughter. I love kids with personality. Thanks for any input!

    1. Yes, I would say it's a pretty lengthy rise. Good for Maia because she needs it but if your girls have a short rise maybe you could go down to a smaller size for this bit? It's a really easy pattern to modify!

    2. Thanks for the reply. I do hate droppy drawers. I should try it though, my kids need sweats/pants. We never seem to have enough.

  7. They look perfect, do you think we can persuade Jenny to do a women's version? Also, where did you get that spotty fabric? Is it a knit?

    1. I would definitely like a woman's version! The spotty fabric is a viscose knit I bought on Ebay for muslins. It's pretty terrible :)

  8. If you can track down grey jersey for these trousers I am with you, let us know. They would be great for school, all that sitting cross legged is very yoga like and requires comfy trousers. Jo x
