Black Friday to Cyber Monday: Save 20%

There are still two full days left to save 20% off everything in my shop using the code BLACKFRIDAY at checkout!  It's been manic so far, and some of my favourite fabrics are running low.  *sob*

Speaking of favourite fabrics, I've finally decided to part company with my wovens.  Due to my current focus on knits, my poor sad wovens weren't getting much action and I also desperately need the shelf space.  As my friend Kym pointed out yesterday, sorting and listing my wovens was like a trip down memory lane- each one of these fabrics has featured in blog posts and makes allllll the way back to 2007.  When looking them up prior to listing I found that a huge amount are Out Of Print / Rare, which made my inner hoarder want to keep them even more.  Or sell them by the FQ on Etsy and and retire to Malta.  For sake of ease they're bundled by colour or theme.

And finally, I've listed quite a few random one-size-only clothing items that have been hanging in my sewing room since last year.  They're already made so ready to ship!

Stop the press: pink Blomma Birds, new Folklore Hearts, and MOAR VIKINGS

Guys, I apologise: I jumped the gun with the sale yesterday. There was one package of fabric that was outstanding but I didn't think it would arrive until I was closed up next week. Not so, the international postage gods must have been smiling on me and it arrived today!  Sorry not sorry.
We have blue Vikings again!  Like their authentic fore-bearers, we assumed that never again would those Vikings make a surprise appearance on British soil.  But that's the thing about Vikings: they're never gone, they're just waiting for a surprise attack.  I'm so happy to see them again.

We also have a new Folklore Hearts fabric in delicious petrol, red, pink, orange and green.  And the popular Blomma Birds in tangerine, bubblegum pink, and red.

Discount codes still apply as follows:

  • Save 10% on fabric orders over £50 by using the code FABRICLOVER at checkout

  • Save 15% on orders over £100 by using the code FABRICJUNKIE at checkout
Because I am presumptuous I am overwhelmed  I wanted to give today and yesterday's customers the chance to see the new fabrics before shipping, I will hold off posting all sale orders until Monday.

All fabrics are still here!

Shop News: SALE (yay!) and closing dates (boo)

Just to give plenty(ish) advanced warning but with the last day of school tomorrow and our upcoming America trip, I'll be closing the the shop up for everything except pdf patterns from early next week til sometime in late July. Is the thought of not having access to the most delicious jerseys for your summer sewing plans filling you with dread? Good news for you times two!

First up, discount codes:
  • Save 10% on fabric orders over £50 by using the code FABRICLOVER at checkout
  • Save 15% on orders over £100 by using the code FABRICJUNKIE at checkout
The 10% discount is available until I close up shop, but the 10% discount for bulk orders I'm going to keep up indefinitely.  I have a lot of loyal customers, and  want to show my ongoing appreciation for your custom :)

Still need some extra enabling?  When I receive a box of fabric, what I normally do is cut off a small piece for clothing making and list the remainder as per half metre cuts.  This normally works out well but I occasionally end up with odd bits and pieces once the fabric has officially sold out.  Sometimes I use them for present-making but mostly they just sit about taking up space.  I desperately need more space. So I've raided my personal stash, and resurrected some of ye olde favourites in the LAST CHANCE section.  Almost all of these are currently unavailable for reordering from the manufacturer (although sometimes they do cave to demand and reprint) so when they're gone, they're gone!

Head over to the shop if you're interested and remember to use your discount codes!

Cyber Monday Sale

kc sale

I'm joining in on the Cyber Monday extravaganza with some pretty nifty discounts!
  • Spend over £20 and save 20% (enter CYBER20 at checkout)
  • Spend over £40 and save 25% (enter CYBER25 at checkout)
The discount codes expire at 12:01 AM on the 28th of November, and for added fun, I can't even tell you which time zone they expire in.  Thanks, Big Cartel, for keeping it mysterious.

The shop has a new section with the final cuts of some of my most treasured fabrics.  Quite of few of the manufacturers only do single runs and when they're gone, they're gone.  That being said, occassionally they reappear as reprints and mostly likely I'll reorder if I can!  So maybe they're gone forever, maybe they'll resurface.  Again, keeping it mysterious.

And finally, now you can order Kitschy Coo gift certificates for all your favourite friends and family.  There's a button at the bottom of every page, as well as a dedicated page link at the top left tool bar.  The link leads you into Paypal to purchase, but I pinky promise that they're redeemable anywhere on my site.

Update on All the Things

With both kids happily ensconced in school and myself caught up on all the orders I received through email (rainbow dresses upon rainbow dresses upon rainbow dresses), the shop is now reopen for everything.  A couple of fabrics and the clothes they made have been sadly retired, but might re-appear if my stockists replenish.

I'm also making a (long-overdue) effort to streamline my offerings, so appliqued items like organic t-shirts and rompers are a bargain-licious 50% off!  Sizes are limited, so go forth and snatch!

In pattern news, three of my coat patterns have been unavailable for some time after I ran out of prints and I flailed and angsted about whether to re-order paper prints or switch to pdfs.  However, the cacophany of 'Why u no have coats?!' has forced me into a decision and I am switching over to pdfs.  As we speak.  Ish.  If it works out using a combination of 16 different pdf programmes, I'll be rolling all of my patterns into a pdf option.

military coat collage

In other coat news, anyone remember the erstwhile military coats? The main difference between these coats and my others are the addition of pockets and a zipper instead of buttons, but I've also graded through 7Y/8Y for both the boys and girls version.  If there's interest, I will pick up where I left off (which typically for me is about at the 95% complete mark) and try to get this released for the autumn.

cool cat sleeveless skater dress

And finally, the skater dress pattern.  Again, I was perilously close to releasing this before I went on holiday as a sleeveless skater dress pattern but some magical time warp occurred and it's almost September and the option for adding sleeves is a necessity.  'But wait, Amanda...', I hear you say, 'You also make sleevey skater dresses!'  I do, indeed, but they are raglan sleeves and not compatible with the sleeveless bodice.  We all know how much I like drafting sleeves.  But drafted they will be, and hopefully this pattern will be an autumn release as well.

Did I mention I'm having a huge clearance sale?

The Weekender Sale

Do you know how long it's been since I've actually had a fully-stocked webshop? Far too long. But it's all there now. After partaking in a couple Black Friday Sales myself, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and offer a sale through my shop. Through Sunday night at midnight, enter 'WEEKENDER' at checkout and receive 20% off your order.

There are two pages of clothes that are ready to ship, from appliqued rompers and organic t-shirts to baby shoes, dresses, and tunics. I'm planning on changing suppliers for my organic t-shirts and rompers so supplies are very limited and once they're gone they're gone! Have a good root around and snap them up quickly.

And four new Kindle cases in the accessories section. Patterns are where they always are, and a range of scraps packs are back in stock.

As always, the automatic postage rules are a bit screwy so overcharges on postage that are greater than one pound will be refunded through Paypal after I've posted them. Depending on how busy this sale is, shipping might not be until Tuesday.

Go forth and prosper

At very long last, all of my destash fabrics have been listed in the shop. Helpfully, I am providing you with compelling reasons why you should buy everything:
  • You love yourself, and want Nice Things.
  • You love me, and want me to have Nice Things. Like a coverstitch machine.
  • In a very short while and for Top Secret reasons, I will be registering (voluntarily!) for VAT. This is 2/3 expediency and 1/3 madness. The good news is that my patterns and children's clothes are both zero-rated items and will not incur VAT. The bad news is that fabric will have VAT levied from when I get my registration number.
Here are the mid- to- heavy weight fabrics, comprising canvas, flannel, velveteen, babycord, and cotton sateen:

Because I am limited to 100 items by Big Cartel tricksy and determined to test your mental accuity, the quilter's cotton yardage section is set out in a slightly different manner.

The fabrics are listed in groups based on being in the same range (i.e. there are four fabrics in the Tufted Tweets range), or by theme (like Transportation, Flowers, Novelties, etc). That means that behind every delightful fabric on the main page, there are hidden treasures. Like so:

The retro music theme not only contains the cassette fabric, but also Groovy Guitars and Sugar Guitars.

For added mystique, you have to roll your cursor over the picture to find out what the group is called. Isn't this exciting? Nothing to do with me being unable to tame the CSS/HTML so the product names show. All to do with increasing the thrill.

Anyway, I'm sure you can appreciate this has been a rather long and tedious exercise for me but it's awesome how well things are selling. It was not the best idea in hindsight to upload things piecemeal so I genuinely thank everyone for their patience. Especially Sew Scrumptious, who sat at her computer and bought item after item the second I published them.

Salient points about the sale (including yesterday's thoughts posted both here and on Facebook):

SHIPPING POINT ONE:
Because of the crazy way I was drip-listing, lots of people have ordered more than once and therefore did not automatically get a shipping discount. Don't worry, I will be refunding any amount over a pound more than Royal Mail's actual charge for your packages. Actually, shipping charges were a bit muddled across the board as I was struggling to think of rules that could apply to so many different weights. Everyone will have their shipping checked against Royal Mail receipts and refunded when over a pound more.

SHIPPING POINT TWO:
The chaos of listing while receiving orders has resulted in a rather kiss-a** meta spreadsheet but very little time for packaging things up. As it stands I've had more than 100 orders (although 98 are probably from Sew Scrumptious) so it'll take me the weekend to get things cut and ready to ship. Hopefully all the packages will be on their merry way to you on Monday.

PROLONG THE BLOODY PROCESS EVEN MORE POINT ONE:
I appreciate that the people who buy the fabric do not necessarily overlap with the people who buy the clothes. I have not listed the clothes. Should I?

Slowly, slowly, catchy monkey (or something)

The shop is slowly filling with all manner of destash miscellany. Scrap packs are selling well (of which I'm extremely grateful as I cut and ironed them for 64 hours). They are sorted by colour and theme here.

Thirty seven one-off knit cuts went up last night and by this morning only 29 remain so have a look because unlike other sales where I have increased the availability of popular fabrics from raid my stash, this time I can't. Once they're gone, they're gone.

The woven yardage, ribbing, and clothing will be going up as quickly as I can (ie slowly and painfully).

A few notes about this sale:
  • 'Irregular cuts': this means that I have already used the fabric for a project so it is not a straight rectangular cut as it would be off a bolt. When I say 'it measures a minumum of X" by Y"', this means that I have found the biggest intact rectangle in the fabric piece and measured that. The actual size of the fabric is bigger (sometimes by a lot), but they are difficult to measure.
  • Shipping rates: I admit that they might be a bit do-lally at the moment as the postal rules are not as straighforward as other sites I've used (particularly if you order a bunch of things), but I promise to refund postage differences of over £1 for anyone this applies to.

Checking in, checking up, checking out

I've spent the last 120+ hours organising my fabric as I move operations out of The Fabric Closet of Doom and into the spare bedroom. Who would've ever thought I would get to the point of hating fabric? But I'm certainly hating organising it, carrying it around, cutting scraps off, colour coding it, separating it by type, folding it, stacking it... you get the picture.

In other news, Jamie's pirate outfit gets a second year of wear

Starting tomorrow, I'm doing a massive destash. They'll be scrap packs, irregular cuts, and yardage. To gauge interest (and to buoy me up when I'm flagging), please leave a comment if you're interested in the sale and what sort of things you'd like most.

I declare the Fabric Sale open!

I've posted them all on my Facebook page into three different albums:

Knits (sorry so spartan!)

On each individual picture there is the fabric name, the quantity I have available and the price. If you want something, leave a comment on the picture stating your claim. If you don't have a Facebook account, you can email me and I'll stake on your behalf but it could get complicated if someone else bagses it before I see. Enraging Fact of the Day: Facebook no longer have a see photo comments button so bear with my if it takes me a little longer to collate information!

The sale is probably geared more to my British friends because the precious fabric is really precious here in the UK. Others are more than welcome, but should email me so we can discuss posting. Shipping within the UK will be £2 for 1-2 yds, £3 for 3-4 yds, £4 for 5-6 yds, £5 for 7-8 yds, and a flat £6 for above 8 yds. If you want recorded delivery add £1 to the amounts above.

The Big Reveal

I've mentioned a couple of times that I was working on a Big Project during the long periods of illness and snow cancellations, but it's finally complete and live.... I've got my first stockist!

The lovely Debbie from Monkey and Bo approached me after I made her daughter a tunic and asked me if I'd be willing to make a selection of limited edition hoodies and tunics for her shop. Of course I was more than willing, and despite the stress of sewing such a big order with the constant companionship of my invalids, I couldn't be more pleased. I'm not going to say how big the order was, but it did involve sewing sixty four sleeves on. Yikes.

These are the final hoodies I hadn't yet posted and they are for the bigger boys in sizes 5y/6y. I really hate taking pictures inside with our poor lighting, but the snow situation outside has prevented outdoor photoshoots. Beyond my own clearly wonderful offerings, Monkey and Bo stock a fabulous array of quirky and unique children's clothes and you should totally visit to buy my things lots of things.

Addendum: I'm thinking of a having a very quick fabric sale, starting today and running for the next couple of days... Who's in?

The Good, the Great and the Horrifying

Exciting times here today. Black Friday means lots of sales and bargains and for fabric excitement three of my favourite UK fabric shops are having sales:
  • M is for Make is having a 10% off sale through tomorrow night. Kate started tormenting me earlier this week with a 15% sale on Patti Young knits and I totally resisted until today when the additional discount drove me over the edge.
  • The Fabric Loft is also having a Black Friday sale through Sunday, with lots of nice fabrics and sewing patterns at a discount.
  • Although it's not technically a Black Friday sale (it's a colloboration with Gertie's latest sewalong!), Sewbox is offering 20% of their garment cottons through 6 December. Click on the Gertie link for the code.
*DO NOT EVEN SKIP THIS BIT*
Never one to let a bandwagon pass without jumping right on, if you've been thinking about buying one of my patterns enter BLACKFRIDAY at checkout in Etsy and get 15% off.

So that's the good over with... how about the great? I've only been included in one of Babygadget's Christmas gift guides!

With a bonus picture of the Baby Maia. So little, so little hair.

And now the horrifying. See that X at the top right corner of this window? Go ahead and click it if you're easily squicked.............

This was this morning, and by the afternoon she had so many on her eyelids that they nearly swelled shut. I thought Jamie's pox was bad but she has the same number as he had on his whole body, on her upper back alone. She must have hundreds.

Mega Sale Phase Three: The Clothes

Jeez-o, but this is taking me an age to do, but finally Phase Three of the Super Mega Sale is complete.

Sewn with my own fair hands

I've created two albums in Facebook for my ready to ship sale clothes: those sewn with my own fair hands and those that have been appliqued (also by my fair hands I might add). Prices are at least 20% less than normal price, but some are much, much more. If you want something put a comment on the relevant photo to say 'Mine, mine, all mine'. If you don't have a Facebook account, you can email me and I'll stake on your behalf but it could get complicated if someone else bagses it before I see. I've only listed ready to ship availability but I might be able to accommodate other sizes or duplicates. Maybe. You never know with me.

I'm happy to ship anywhere in the world. Shipping within the UK will be £2 for orders up to £25, £3 for orders between £25 and £50, and a flat £4 for orders over £50. Rest of the world: take the UK shipping price and add £2.

If you want an even bigger discount, I'll take 50% off your shipping charges if you use your cyber mojo to tweet, blog, Facebook link etc the sale, just let me know when you order. Again, like the pattern sale and the fabric sale it's open until Friday.

Mega Sale Phase Two: Fabric bonanza

Lightweight wovens (quilters weight cotton, lawn, voile, linen)

Well, this is a lot more fabric than I was intending to sell! But once I started pulling everything out I had a really good think about how badly I hoard the precious fabric and off I went. I've posted them all on my Facebook page into three different albums: light weight cotton, heavy and medium weight cotton, and knits. You can click on the pictures to visit the albums.

Medium and Heavy weight wovens (cotton sateen, home decor weight cotton, babycord, velveteen)

On each individual picture there is the fabric name, the quantity I have available and the price. If you want something, leave a comment on the picture stating your claim. If you don't have a Facebook account, you can email me and I'll stake on your behalf but it could get complicated if someone else bagses it before I see.

Knits (french terry, sweatshirting, cotton jersey and cotton lycra)

The sale is probably geared more to my British friends because the precious fabric is really precious here in the UK. Others are more than welcome, but should email me so we can discuss posting. Shipping within the UK will be £1 for 1-2 yds, £2 for 3-4 yds, £3 for 5-6 yds, £4 for 7-8 yds, £5 for 9-10 yds and a flat £6 for anything above 10 yds. Yes, I appreciate I should be using metres because the EU will no doubt throw me in jail, but most of the fabric was purchased in yards so it's more logical for me to list them that way.

If you want an even bigger discount, I'll take 50% off your shipping charges if you use your cyber mojo to tweet, blog, Facebook link etc the sale, just let me know when you order. Again, like the pattern sale it's open until Friday and I'll post Phase Three: The Clothes tomorrow!

Mega Sale Phase One: Patterns 20% off!

After such a good response to my prospective sale post, I'll go for it! I'm going to break it up into three phases rather than bombarding you with the triple sale in a single post. Patterns up first!
I'm going to list a picture of each pattern, a short description (check out my Etsy shop for longer descriptions and more pictures), the normal and sale prices in GBP (and USD for reference), and the number of patterns I currently have in my inventory that are ready to ship. Shipping will be at a flat rate of £1 to UK address (+50p for each additional pattern) and £2 for non-UK addresses (+£1 for each additional pattern). If you do want a pattern but others have snatched it up first, I'll reorder prints and send yours out next week at the sale price. If you'd like to buy something, email me at amanda@kitschycoo.co.uk. Sale closes next Friday!

With the fold-down / fold-up waistband and the slightly long slouchy legs, these leggings are designed to provide two years of wear. The pattern includes pieces for 18m/ 2T and 3T/ 4T. Its generous fit is designed to provide two years of wear. For colder months (or as an alternative to a jacket) this is a fabulous pattern to use with fleece, sweatshirting or french terry. If it's for warmer months or layering, jersey, interlock, ribbed / waffle knits give a more drapey fit! The pattern includes pieces for 18m/ 2T and 3T/ 4T. I would rate the difficulty as advanced beginner.

Reversible Matinee jacket

The jacket has a straight up and down shape with an opening down the front and tabbed button closures. I would rate the difficulty as advanced beginner.

The Maia Strappy slouch bag

This PDF tutorial explains how to make a Maia strappy slouch bag. There are instructions included to draft two sizes: big and slouchy or medium but generous. It is a celebration of straps. A long adjustable one that means you can wear it across your body or just over a shoulder, there is a strap that goes under the bag from metal ring to metal ring, and two shorter ones that run over the base onto the sides. They're all lined with contrasting fabric for peeking. The top of the bag has a zippered closing to keep all of your bits safe, it's lined with contrasting fabric and has an integral zippered pocket for segregating super precious bits. The base is a separate rectangular piece that gives it more structure than a typical slouchy bag. THIS IS A PDF. I would rate the difficulty as advanced beginner or intermediate.

Normal price: £6 or $9
Sale Price: £4.80 or $7.20
Number of patterns available: infinity plus one

Camo hoodies and Supermodelling

My cyberpal DomesticKat send me some proper Army-issue camoflague fabric to make two hoodies for five year olds for Christmas and here they are:

Blue Camo

Khaki Camo

And here's Maia modelling the two other cowl neck tops. I don't think I made it clear enough on the original post... I am hemming the sleeves and bottom hem edge, it was the pockets I wasn't sure if I needed to hem.

But I concede it does look much better, and I agree that the kangaroo pocket is the best. Certainly according to anecdotal evidence...

And here's the french terry one, which incidently, matches absolutely nothing in her trouser drawer.

My Count My Chickens Before They Hatch Sale is a bit quieter than I was anticipating, so please feel free to contact me about making custom orders too.
