Sewing World Spread (and giveaway!)

sewing world cover

I've had to keep this quiet for what seems like forever but now that it's been published  I can tell you that I have a full pattern in the June issue of Sewing World... And a cover mention no less!  Arrow and POW bubble (obviously) added by myself.

Here's the skirt I made and the pattern that's included: it's a drop waisted bubble skirt with a full lining for neatness, an elasticated waist for ease of dressing and in sizes 3 years to 12 years.

There are paper pieces to cut out (as opposed to measurements to draft your own) and a three page step-by-step tutorial.

This picture of the orange linen interior shows how neat the inside finish is.

And this picture shows what happens when a magazine lets a contributor write their own 'About Me'.

There are lots of other projects in the issue and even a bonus House of Pinheiro doppelganger.  Every magazine should have a House of Pinheiro doppelganger if they don't have the real thing.

I had to provide the skirt for the photos, but it's back with me now and I'd like to give it away!  The size is 3y/4y with a 20" waist (stretching to about 24") and length of just under 11".  If you have a three to four year old, a child that will eventually be a three to four year old, you know a child that is or will be a three to four year old, or even if you have one of those creepy kid-in-the-corner dolls that fits the bill, leave a comment for a chance to win.  The giveaway is open internationally and I'll pick a random winner on Sunday; make sure that if you're a no-reply commentor that I can get a hold of you!

The Doli Tank Review (and giveaway!)

I was really excited when Sarah from EmmyLouBeeDoo asked me to pattern test her newest pattern, the Doli Tank.  The tank is designed for lightweight wovens (like lawn, rayon challis, lightweign linen etc) and I used some of the delicious voile I picked up on my latest trip Stateside.  The pattern is available in sizes 12m to 6yr, the size I tested.

The tank has a slightly high-lo hem, easy-fitting shape, ribbing trim, and an exaggerated racer back (this is my favourite bit).

It's super neat on the inside too with french seams all over the place.  You might have noticed that my trim isn't sitting exactly flat which is my fault for using a hefty cotton lycra because I don't follow instructions because I didn't have a coordinating ribbing.  Sarah also narrowed the height of the trim post-testing, so it should sit flatter even if you use a cotton lycra like me.  Now that I've shown you how the Doli Tank would look if you live North of The Wall and there's a gale force wind blowing, here are some pics which more accurately reflect the lovely cut and drape.

And the very best news is that Sarah has generously offered a giveaway copy of this pattern for my readers!  To enter you don't even have to like Sarah in real life (although you totally will as she's one of my favourite people), you just need to like her Facebook page.  Or follow her blog, or follow her on Instagram.  After you do one of those things (or all of them as I recommend), leave a comment on this post.  The giveaway winner will be randomly selected on Sunday night.

**GIVEAWAY CLOSED! Congrats to Sandraled!**

Sew Mama Sew Knit Fabric Giveaway

knits to the right

Apologies for the radio silence in these parts, it turns out at least 75% of the world's population wants a Rainbow Party Frock. It is a full time job just answering emails about them.  To reward everyone for their patience, however, how about a little giveaway?  Every single year without fail I miss the Sew Mama Sew giveaway day, it's a good thing they extended it to giveaway week this year.

knits to the left

Since the last time I had a fabric giveaway, I've probably doubled my shop stash so there's a lot more lovely prints to choose from.  Including three new ones that arrived only yesterday!

summer forest

Hello, delightful Summer Forest with your birds, foxes, deer and rabbits with trees, flowers, bushes and hills.  I think I love you.

summer forest with coordinates

And look, two coordinating plain jerseys in lime green and red.  A perfect colour match with Summer Forest....

little red with coordinates

But also Little Red! The red has a slightly orangey tone so it's not a perfect colour match with prints that are overwhelmingly cherry red  but it would be a fabulous contrasting red for heaps of colours and prints.  The lime green is a perfect colour match not only with Summer Forest and Little Red Riding Hood, but also with Green Astronauts, Lime green and blue stars velour, and Rainbow Happy mushrooms!

Because I'd like to be able to include everyone in the giveaway and in light of the recent Royal Mail postage increase from  ridiculous to scandalous, the giveaway is for half a metre of the fabric of your choice.  To celebrate the Scottish Week That Is Summer  (which started on Monday and will last a few days yet!), to enter just leave me a comment telling me what you're looking forward to the most this summer.  Of if you are of the ornery-persuasion, what you're looking forward to the least.  The giveaway will be open until 25 May 5pm PST, and the winner will be choosen randomly.

Congrats to Melissa Palmer, and thanks for all the comments!

Sew Grateful Fabric Giveaway

It's been ever-so-long since I hosted a giveaway here on the blog. More than a year in fact! If that doesn't cause a scandal in blogging circles, I don't know what will*. Let's rectify that right now...

Giveaway: The Reversible Zippy Hoodie

I'm delighted that my reversible hoodie pattern has made it through testing after months of fine-tuning and revisions. For the first time ever, I graded it right through from 18m up to 8Y, rather than releasing it in two age tranches. I think this is the way forward so those of you who've been frustrated with me delaying the older sizes can once again be my BFF. Phew.

So onto the show! Not only are my testers kind, generous and gifted, but they also gestate gorgeous children.

2T courtesy of KID, MD

3T courtesy of Kimberly

4T courtesy of Straygoddess

5Y courtesy of Stephanie

6Y courtesy of Indywriter

7Y courtesy of Rach

8Y courtesy of Maxine

That's some splendid testing, no? To reiterate the visual evidence you've just seen of the hoodie's features, here's a little bit about the pattern:

The tutorial shows you how to make a hoodie with a separating zip, ribbed cuffs and (optional) front pockets. The hoodie is fully lined with all seams hidden inside so if you use a reversible zipper you get two hoodies in one! With a generous cut, the hoodie is designed to be worn for up to two years per size, and there are also two length choices within each size for added flexibility based on whether your child is tall or average. It's a perfect garment for layering and for the transitions between seasons, and great fun for combining fabrics! It is suitable for both boys and girls.
To celebrate the launch of this pattern, a giveaway! To enter just leave a comment on this post (remember to include your email address if I can't reach you through your blog) telling my testers how awesome they are. Also, your choice of either 18m/2T/3T/4T or 5Y/6Y/7Y/8Y if you were to win.

And remember that you can leave multiple entries whenever you use your cyber trickery (Twitter, Facebook, blogging etc) to pimp the giveaway. But remember to comment on this post each time, or I won't be able to keep track. I'll randomly select a winner on Saturday!

GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED! THANKS FOR ALL YOUR ENTRIES :)

Boy briefs underwear pattern giveaway

strawberry pants

Seeing as I have resurrected my wayward aquaintaince with the scanner and I'm attempting to complete the ten thousand projects I have at 98% completion, the time has come to release the Boy Brief Underwear pattern that went through testing in the summer. About bloody time, right?

If anyone has the powers of memory required to recollect the distant past, you will remember that the underpants are suitable for boys and girls and available in sizes 1-2yr, 2-3yr, 3-4yr and 4-5yr. With my ample-bummed daughter in mind, they are designed for maximum coverage with low cut legs and a nice high rise in the back. Courtesy of a tall yoga-style waistband and knit bound leg holes, there is no elastic to dig into delicate skin. With these modest briefs, your child is firmly in the No Crack, No Wedgie Zone.

strawberry back

So, as always, to celebrate the release of a new pattern I'm hosting a giveaway. This giveaway's theme: boy's clothes. After the hoodie pattern is available in hopefully a week's time, I'd like to have another boy / unisex pattern in my arsenal. To enter just leave a comment on this post (remember to include your email address if I can't reach you through your blog) with your suggestion for a boy's pattern you'd like to see. And remember that you can leave multiple times whenever you use your cyber trickery (Twitter, Facebook, blogging etc) to pimp the giveaway. But remember to comment on this post each time, or I won't be able to keep track. I'll randomly select a winner on Wednesday!

Yoga leggings and Cowl neck tunic pattern giveaway

Those of you on Twitter might have noticed the inimitable @thatkat was Twitpic'ing her progress testing the yoga leggings pattern. Man, oh man, I love the stripes.

And look. I think Maia has a rival in the booty department.

The pattern includes three choices of leg: a skinny long leg, a cuff, and a mock-button overlapping cuff. The beauty of these leggings, though, is a very tall foldover yoga waistband... no irritating elastic to dig into the waist and the added modesty of being able to wear the band up in the back to fully cover little bottoms. With the fold-down / fold-up waistband and the slightly long slouchy legs, these leggings are designed to provide two years of wear.

And remember when I was on my deathbed (again), Emily tested the cowl neck top? That's ready too. There are a lot of variations included with this pattern: two choices of necks (a cowl that can be kept tall and slouchy or folded over, and a mock neck that has height but is not folded over), either puffed or standard sleeves, and an optional large kangaroo pocket to the front for storing treasures. Its generous fit is designed to provide two years of wear.

These two patterns are on their way to the printers today. And as per every other time I launch a pattern, a giveaway. To enter this giveaway, leave a comment on this post with your favourite book. I'm on the hunt. Also, which pattern you'd like. I'll announce who won on Sunday, and as usual you can have multiple entries if you re-tweet, blog, Facebook or other cyber tomfoolery. Just remember to come on back and re-comment because I won't be able to keep track!
