Hands up if you want your own coat

Thanks to everyone who left such positive feedback on my first woman's coat, you gave me the courage to wear my creation out in public when I went out last night! Which gives me the opportunity to talk about the coat while showing gratuitous Girls' Night Out pictures. So this is what it looks like when someone has had a shower:

Please note I have a strange body shape. My shoulders, waist and hips are all narrow but I have a massive bust *waves at male relatives* so using myself as a benchmark for grading isn't a great idea.

Me and Ruth

I'm thinking I will probably offer this in small (UK 10/12), medium (UK 12/14) and large (UK 14/16). Because of the swing rather than tailored fit, the shoulder and bust are the most important measurements. And there's a bit of leeway on button placement so I think it'll be okay to cover two sizes per pattern... What do other people think about this?

Sarah, me and Ruth

So here's where you come in: I'm touting for a bunch of testers in various sizes and shapes to put my grading skillz to the test. I'd like to release this pattern quick-sharp (I can't offer ready made coats until I suss sizing) so I'm gonna have to give first priority to people in the UK . If you're interested in testing and can commit to working fairly quickly on this, please leave a comment with roughly what size coat you normally wear and if you're small, medium or big busted. But first, look how cute Ruth and Sarah are:

  1. Oh I so wish I could say me, me, me, but I have literally NO time at the moment. Glad you had a good night out.

  2. I can do it for you if you can get the pattern to me for Monday/Tuesday. I normally wear a 16 but my sister is a 14 so I can try it on her and I.

Looks good though! Did you have a good night out?

  4. Oh, I wish I was in the UK!! I'd love to shove aside my current sewing queue to make this coat! I really mean it, so if the local testers aren't forthcoming, I really would love to. I'm a busty UK 10/12.

  7. I will MAKE time!

I'm usually a UK 8/10, with short arms and a medium bust (?!) - though coats normally look crazily 80s in the shoulder department on me because I'm small. I'm not really selling myself here am I?

If you're looking to draft a 'petite' version then I'm your gal!

  8. It looks ace! I should say no but you know how I like to procrastinate so if you are still looking for a size 14, I'd be up for it...means fabric shopping, right ;)

  9. I'm struggling to get my comment to post. I was all excited until I realised that I had to make it myself :p I'm a 14, but have to take a 16 in clothes that aren't designed for women who have boobs & hips.

  10. I love the coat and would love to test it but fear limited skills, lack of time, and being too big for it to fit. Calling 14/16 large always makes me feel like a freaky behemoth, any chance of ginormous 18/20?

  11. would love to test it out. I am short size 12 to 14 US so a 14/16 UK. fairly large chested and of course i can be a quick sew. i woudl be gald to help but understand the country limitation. Keep me posted if you need me. Love it.

  12. if you don't have enough in country testers I'd be thrilled to do it! quick sharp! i'm a size 10/12 US so I think that's a 12/14 UK? average bust... average height

  17. This is totally gorgeous coat, but alas, would never fit me! Looks pretty damn good on you though!

(for the record...to comver my boobs it would need to be a size 22/24!)

  18. This is just one of the many times that I wish I lived in the UK (this wish frequently pops up whenever I indulge in Pride and Prejudice, BBC America, or breathing).

If you must expand your pool... On my map Indiana and the UK are very close to each other (it may have something to do with that fold I made, but I digress). And I am typically a size large (US 12).

    Oh well...

  19. ooh - am I too late? Can make it this week. Though not sure of which size - I'm a 12/14!

  20. If you're still in need? I'd love to make one. I live in the US, I'd probably be a size small in the UK, I'm small busted and have a long torso. I can work on it right away! I have such plans already as to the fabric I would use for this! email me if interested,thanks!-Laurie
